Dr Clemens graduated in Germany in 1996 and completed his postgraduate GP training in the UK. After immigrating to New Zealand in 2008, he combined general practice with a strong interest in minor surgery and skin cancer care. He is a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP), an accredited Skin Cancer Doctor with the Skin Cancer College Australasia since 2019, and a full member of the New Zealand Skin Cancer Doctors since 2022. In 2023, Dr Clemens co-founded the Southern Skin Clinic with Dr Jeremy Maarschalk and now works exclusively in skin-cancer-related care. His clinical work includes providing services for the WellSouth PHO GPSI scheme, undertaking outsourced secondary-care skin cancer surgeries for the Invercargill and Gore region, and caring for patients in private practice. Since the launch of the WellSouth PHO skin lesion referral program in 2021, he has also served as one of three triagers, helping to ensure timely and appropriate access to treatment.
