Dr Dixon graduated from University of New South Wales in 1985. She worked for many years as a General Practitioner partner in Tauranga. She started formal Skin Cancer training with Prof Anthony Dixon (no relation) in 2010 and completed all the Australasian College of Cutaneous Oncology (ACCO) courses. She transitioned to just Skin Cancer management in 2019 and works from Otumoetai Doctors, Tauranga. In 2020 she graduated with the University of Queensland Master of Medicine (Skin Cancer) with Deans Commendation for academic excellence. She has gained practice accreditation which is a major step towards obtaining ACCO Fellowship.
